Mapping out a VoIP implementation

VoIP is quickly being recognized as the next link in the business phone system evolutionary chain, as enterprises around the world are leveraging the technology in an effort to improve collaboration and support innovative strategies, such as the adoption of mobile devices. As the IP telephony market matures, however, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find a relevant VoIP provider amongst the growing number of vendors looking to get a piece of the pie.

A recent Smart Business Network Online report highlighted the importance of seeking out providers that have the same or similar goals to the enterprise. By developing a list of must-have features, for example, decision-makers will likely find it less challenging to find the right vendor.

“Businesses are looking for flexibility, reporting functions and a provider that has its best interests at heart – someone who can help them recognize current trends and provide true consultative services,” telecommunications expert Alex Desberg told SBN Online.

The process of finding a VoIP provider

As the business world becomes increasingly competitive, many vendors are seeking out smaller organizations that do not necessarily have too much experience in the telecommunications field. Enterprises should avoid these providers, as their products usually do not align with the complexities associated with a large infrastructure. Instead, large companies must be on the lookout for services that cater to their specific requirements.

SBN Online stated that enterprise executives should work with a VoIP provider that offers strategic features that are not necessarily available through land line services. A separate VoIP Review report noted that some of these solutions include the ability to blacklist numbers that organizations want to block, whitelist capabilities that support connections to certain numbers and auto attendant services that act as a virtual secretary.

Most of these unique offerings are not usually available via traditional phone services, meaning enterprises should replace outdated voice solutions with products from well-known VoIP providers that make advanced tools available at little to no extra cost. By planning ahead and working with trusted vendors, large businesses will be able to augment their phone system with a platform that is more scalable, adaptable and less expensive than conventional offerings. This opportunity will strengthen a firm’s ability to stay competitive and efficient in the long run.
